The Department of Radiation Oncology at UZ Leuven is equipped with five external beam radiotherapy treatment units, comprising three Varian Clinac with OBI, a Varian TrueBeam system and a Varian/BrainLab TrueBeam STX system. For treatment simulation, a Varian Acuity and a Siemens large bore CT are used. Complex techniques such as VMAT/IMRT, SBRT and SRS are used as part of the daily clinical routine. Brachytherapy is also an important element of the treatments offered, using LDR, PDR and HDR techniques. As an academic centre, the Department is involved in many clinical studies with both internal and external partners. Research and development of innovative techniques is also an important aim of the Department. The UZ Leuven is in the process of acquiring proton therapy, which will entail a whole series of challenges for the team of physicists
